Fellow photographer and good friend Ann Arbor Miller and I decided it was time we went on a little photography adventure together. So on Thursday we headed over the Red River Valley Fair in West Fargo and then down to Barnesville, Minn., for the Clay County Fair on Saturday afternoon. We might be starting a little project with some of the photos (it may be ongoing) so I can only give you a little preview.
Both photos here are mine… the photo on the left is from the Clay County Fair and the photo on the right from the Red River Valley Fair. As those who’ve seen some of my work know, I really love simple images… so, they might not be what you expect from a fair. Those expecting rides and carnival workers… so sorry.
Last post from the this year’s WFF. Of course, I save the best for last… the reason for the whole festival… the wonderful, awesome music. I was able to see some of my favorite musicians this time around (Andrew Bird, Avett Bros., Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion) and was also able to discover a few new favorites (The Good Lovelies, Hoots and Hellmouth).
Again, big thanks the High Plains Reader. If it wasn’t for the nice media pass I would be unable to get so nice a close (well, I could… but then I’d be rude… and, well, I tend to try not to be rude). I’ll start with the daytime stages.

There are so many wonderful things going on during the day and night around the festival grounds. Not only do you have TONS of music, but scattered through the festival site are little art projects not to mention the coolest Kids tent ever (seriously, cool) and the most beautiful prairie setting. At night, every festival goer must check out the Zero Gravity Circus and Big Blue at Night for alternative music (DJs, Dance music… all loosely folk based).
The little TrygKerz family is fresh from our annual vacation to the Winnipeg Folk Festival. For those who are not aware of the WFF, it is a yearly folk music festival in Birds Hill Provincial Park just north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This year was the 37th year of the festival and I have been going to the festival every year since 2004. Well, almost every year… I only missed last year because I was big and pregnant.
I have lots and lots of photographs from the week, so I am breaking up these photos into three parts. First, the campground. Second, the festival surroundings. Lastly, the on stage music. I was lucky to have a media pass this year thanks to the nice folks at the High Plains Reader. Y’all will hopefully get to see some of these photos in there within the next few weeks too along with a nice little profile of the WFF that my husband Kris wrote.
So. Yes. Campground. There really isn’t any place in the world quite like festival camping at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Marching band? Check. Mini-stages. Check. Fun Games made by campers? Check. General awesomeness? Check. This year, we had our 11 month old daughter with us so I was unable to explore the campground at night (unable because herding a 11 month old is really, really, really exhausting). Too bad though. That’s really when the fun happens. I was able to capture some fun stuff during the day though…. enough babbling… here you go:
Lots and lots and lots of photos from Sara & Rick’s super awesome May wedding.
My beautiful niece Dana and her super awesome husband Dave are due to have their first baby in about a month (probably less). That means at age 27 I will be a great aunt! Crazy!
Our little family was out in central North Dakota last week for Dana’s baby shower, and I made sure to snap just a few pictures of her blossoming belly.

Dana and Dave own Dave’s parent’s former home. Not only do they have the best location in Minot (and the biggest yard), but there are so many reminders of Dave’s childhood. I was in love with the play house in their yard.
Beautiful Maggie Mae is nearly 11 months old. I’m afraid, dear blog readers, this is the last you’ll see of Miss Maggster on my blog for awhile. She and her awesome little family move from Fargo to Iowa on Friday. Although I’ll miss hanging out with her mum and photographing her cute, cute, face, I wish them all the best on their new and exciting journey!
This was a first for me. Check out the rainbow we saw in Minot, North Dakota on Saturday… at Sunset!
